The third annual Art of Concern Symposium, Art on the Dark Side, explores the styles and themes of the gothic. Though typically identified with literary figures such as Edgar Allen Poe or Nathanial Hawthorne, the gothic has persistently "haunted" an optimistic notion of American culture. This year's symposium will explore manifestations of the gothic in twentieth-century art to better understand the complicated nature of our American experience. Registration and LodgingRegistration is $25 for CMA members and $50 for nonmembers. Admission for students is free and registration is requested. Box lunches may be purchased at time of registration for $10 each. Please specify vegetarian if required. Register by May 8 online or by calling 614.629.0359. The recommended hotel for symposium lodging is The Westin Columbus, a renovated historic hotel near the museum. Be sure to ask for the "arts rate" of $115/night (based on availability).
